The Mini Vinnies are quite literally mini-St. Vincent de Paul’s. At St. Ignatius we are proud to have established our Mini Vinnies group this year.
‘Mini Vinnies’ can be children aged between 7 to 11. At St Ignatius our Mini Vinnies group is made up of a group of pupils from Year 4 and 5 and are led by Ms McGinty. If children wish to be a part of the Mini Vinnies group, they are invited to write a letter of application to our founding committee sharing why they believe they would be a wonderful member of the Mini Vinnie’s team, what personal attributes and skills they believe could help them in this role and share one fundraising idea they have.
Our Mini Vinnies group come together to form a part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society England and Wales, a voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms. Mini Vinnies meet to pray, discuss and support however they can to help make a difference in their communities.
Mini Vinnies is about doing good works in the community. The Vinnies model of ‘See, Think, Do’ is a great way to get young people thinking and talking about their spirituality; by connecting their beliefs and values with service activities and issues in their community, they can help to make their faith real, meaningful and relevant.
Our founding committee for this year consists of:
Year 4- Tiana and Pedro
Year 5-Brian and Jayden
Induction of the new Mini Vinnies members
The Mini Vinnies founding committee visited the Key Stage 2 classrooms and invited the pupils to apply to be a Mini Vinnie. In their next meeting they looked through the applications and decided who would join the Mini Vinnies this year. They then planned an assembly to induct the new members. At the assembly they presented the new Mini Vinnies with their badges and handbooks.
Trip to Westminster Cathedral
On Monday 10th November 2025, the Chaplaincy Team and Mini Vinnies, accompanied by Mr Bonner and Ms McGinty, visited Westminster Cathedral. The group attended the 12:30pm mass and then we had some time exploring the different altars in the Cathedral.
